2022+ WRX VB Turbo Buyer’s Guide: VB670 vs VB870
For a 2022+ Subaru WRX VB turbo upgrade, start with the build you want to drive. The Tomioka Racing VB670 is positioned around street response; the larger VB870 provides more airflow headroom for higher-output builds. Fuel, tuning, supporting hardware and the installation plan matter as much as the turbo choice.

VB670 vs VB870: compare the hardware

These specifications come from Tomioka’s product listings. Wheel sizes and model numbers alone do not establish a safe power limit, an exact spool RPM or a guaranteed horsepower result. Ask your tuner to assess the engine, transmission, fuel and intended use.
Current packages, prices and availability
Catalog checked November 7, 2026; parts-only USD pricing. Both EDO listings currently have orderable variants with tracked inventory. Availability belongs to the exact package you select. Confirm dispatch timing with EDO for your selected option.
| Package | VB670 | VB870 | What changes? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Turbo hardware; no Accessport added | From $2,500 | From $2,500 | Turbocharger, gasket and hardware kit. Select your base-map requirement. |
| Turbo plus AP3-SUB-006 Accessport | $3,225 | $3,225 | Adds the listed Accessport device; $725 above the base package at this check. |
The linked variants above use “Not needed” for the base map. If you need the listed Delicious Tuning base map, choose 91 or 93 octane in the product options and confirm the ECU, transmission, fuel, intake and other modification requirements with EDO. “Already have or No need” refers to the Accessport device; it does not remove the need for a compatible calibration plan.
A base map, custom calibration, installation labor and a completed fuel-system build are different things. Confirm which services and supporting parts are included in your estimate. Prices and stock can change; check the selected live variant before purchase and confirm dispatch and appointment timing separately.
EDO’s VB870 shop car: 510.74 WHP on E40
The 2023 WRX EDO shop-car listing documents a VB870 build with upgraded fuel delivery, flex-fuel control, intercooling, exhaust and oil cooling. Its published Dynapack graph records:
| Power | 510.74 WHP |
|---|---|
| Torque | 426.02 lb-ft |
| Fuel | E40 ethanol blend |
| Boost shown | 24 PSI / 1.67 bar |
| Dynamometer | Dynapack |
| Test-graph hardware notes | Full exhaust and COBB front-mount intercooler |

The supporting-parts list includes Nostrum high-pressure direct injectors, a Nostrum +37% high-pressure fuel pump, a DeatschWerks DW430C low-pressure pump and COBB CAN Flex Fuel, along with the COBB front-mount intercooler and full exhaust. That context matters: the result should not be presented as a stock-fuel-system or turbo-only result.
This is not a matched-condition VB670-versus-VB870 comparison. Different fuel, boost, calibration, supporting parts, dynos and conditions can change the outcome. The shop-car graph also does not establish a safe limit for another engine or transmission.
Which turbo should I choose?
Start with VB670 when your tuner’s plan prioritizes responsive street use and its published configuration meets your goals. Consider VB870 when the complete build calls for the larger compressor and turbine and the associated fuel, cooling and drivetrain review. Avoid choosing solely from the model number or a peak dyno figure.
Confirm the vehicle year, engine, transmission, ECU support, original turbo and intake/inlet arrangement. Both listings target the WRX VB FA24DIT. They are separate applications from an earlier FA20DIT WRX, an EJ WRX/STI or an FA24 BRZ/GR86.
What belongs in the installation quote?
- Turbo package, required gaskets/hardware and any additional replacement parts
- Intake/inlet compatibility, intercooler and cooling requirements
- Fuel system and ethanol-control requirements for your actual fuel and target
- Accessport compatibility, base-map selection and vehicle-specific calibration/review
- Installation labor, diagnosis of existing faults, and post-install checks
- Shipping, tax, parts availability and appointment timing
The shop car uses COBB CAN Flex Fuel. Our separate WRX VB Delicious Tuning V3 CAN flex-fuel guide covers another system; it is not the shop car’s documented hardware list. Have your tuner select a compatible fuel-control and calibration combination.
