BRZ / FR-S Turbo Kit Buyer’s Guide: Fitment & Installation
A BRZ turbo kit or FR-S turbo kit should fit the exact car, include the components your installer expects and match a calibration plan agreed before installation. Start with the engine and transmission, then compare the complete project rather than the turbo kit price alone.
This guide compares kit listings showing available inventory in EDO's catalog when reviewed on November 6, 2026. Follow each product link for current pricing, options and stock. A kit appearing in this guide is not a reservation or a guarantee of compatibility with every model.
EDO Performance and Tomioka Racing share ownership. We include both Tomioka and HKS options below so you can compare the same fitment, contents and installation questions.
1. Separate the first-generation FA20 from the later FA24
First-generation Subaru BRZ, Scion FR-S and Toyota 86 / GT86: identify the FA20 engine, chassis, model year and transmission. The two first-generation options below serve this platform, subject to the exact application and manufacturer requirements.
2022+ Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ: these later FA24 applications use a different kit. The G670 section below is separate so a newer BRZ owner does not order an earlier FR-S kit by mistake.
Tell the shop about an engine swap, prior forced-induction setup or other changes that could affect fitment. Similar model names do not make oil pans, manifolds, piping or calibration interchangeable.
2. Compare kit options available from EDO
| Kit | Application to confirm | Main buying decision |
|---|---|---|
| Tomioka TR-TS1025-Pan | First-generation FA20 BRZ / FR-S / Toyota 86 | TD05-20G billet-wheel kit with a pre-welded oil pan. Confirm transmission fitment, current contents and calibration separately. |
| HKS GTIII-RS Pro Kit, 11001-KT001 | Supported first-generation FA20 ZN6 / ZC6 manual-transmission applications | HKS lists this version with a catless extension for competition use. It is not its automatic-transmission or catalyst-equipped kit. |
| Tomioka G670, TR-TS1063 | Supported 2022+ GR86 / BRZ FA24 | Later-generation dual ceramic ball-bearing kit. Oil-pan and EcuTek base-map/license options depend on the selected variant. |
Stock is specific to the product and selected option. Check availability before paying for parts or committing to an installation date.

3. First-generation Tomioka kit: what does the oil-pan version include?
The TR-TS1025-Pan listing combines a TD05-20G billet-wheel turbocharger and wastegate actuator with a pre-welded engine oil pan. Its listed hardware includes the exhaust manifold and downpipe, front-mount intercooler, charge piping, intake/filter, blow-off valve and installation hardware.
Have the shop confirm the supplied valve and filter configuration, fluid connections and any additional service parts for your car. The pre-welded pan addresses one parts decision; installing the pan, mechanical checks and calibration still belong in the job scope.
Do not assume programming hardware, a software license or a finished tune comes with the kit. Get those items identified on the quote.
4. HKS GTIII-RS: check the exact kit number and transmission
EDO's HKS listing is 11001-KT001. HKS identifies GTIII-RS turbo hardware, intercooler/piping, oil and water piping, intake components, exhaust manifold and a catless extension for this kit number. HKS states that its oil cooler is separate.
HKS does not list this kit as compatible with an automatic transmission. Review the manufacturer's installation FAQ and application and contents information with the installer. Ask what vehicle modifications, oil-return work, additional parts and calibration are required for your exact car.
Choose by the full specification and intended use. A kit from another manufacturer should receive the same review of contents, calibration, installation requirements and warranty terms.
5. Later-generation GR86 / BRZ: choose the G670 options deliberately
The G670 TR-TS1063 listing is for supported 2022+ GR86 / BRZ FA24 applications. It includes the listed turbo hardware, intercooler/piping, intake, MAP sensor and installation components; review its full product description before ordering.
The pre-welded oil pan and EcuTek base map/license are selectable additions on this listing. Confirm the selected variant, the programming equipment or license you already own and the final calibration work the tuner will perform. A base map does not replace the checks and setup required for the actual vehicle.
6. Ask for the complete installed cost
A useful quote separates required work from optional upgrades. Ask it to identify:
- The exact kit, SKU, options and current availability
- Vehicle inspection and any corrective work before installation
- Additional gaskets, lines, fluids, fasteners and vehicle-specific parts
- Oil-pan / oil-return work and any required fabrication or modifications
- Installation labor, calibration, licenses and programming equipment
- Fueling, cooling or drivetrain changes required for the agreed setup
- Testing, expected downtime and product versus workmanship warranty responsibilities
Discuss response, intended use and available fuel with the tuner. Published horsepower examples do not guarantee your result or establish the operating limit of a stock engine or transmission.
7. Request a BRZ / FR-S turbo installation quote
Use our dedicated quote-request page and include your year/model, engine, transmission, modifications, selected kit or “help choosing,” available fuel, intended use, parts already owned, location, preferred timing and complete-project budget.
Installation, service estimates, scheduling and service warranties are handled by Edo Auto Repair, as described on the service page. EDO Performance handles the parts enquiry. The team may need an inspection or additional information before a firm estimate.
BRZ / FR-S turbo kit questions
Which kit should I buy first?
Confirm the engine, generation and transmission, then agree on the intended setup with the installer and tuner. Compare the exact contents and complete job; the highest advertised power figure is not enough to choose a kit.
Will an FR-S kit fit a 2022+ BRZ?
Do not assume that it will. The later FA24 application has its own kit. Check the G670 listing and have the exact car reviewed.
Can I keep an automatic transmission?
Compatibility is kit-specific. HKS explicitly excludes automatic models from 11001-KT001. Have the transmission and intended torque delivery reviewed for any other kit instead of treating one brand's fitment as proof for another.
Can I buy the kit online and arrange installation afterward?
Agree on the fitment, hardware, calibration plan and timing first. That helps avoid buying an incomplete or unsuitable combination. Start with the installation-quote request if you need help choosing.
