Motul Break-In Engine Oil 10W-40 is a high-performance mineral engine oil formulated specifically for the controlled running-in of newly built, rebuilt, or refreshed 4-stroke engines in automotive and powersports applications.

Its specialized high-ZDDP formula supports fast and controlled mating of piston rings and cylinder liners while providing strong protection for flat-tappet camshafts, high-lift camshafts, rocker arms, bearings, and other highly loaded components during the critical initial break-in period.

The formulation is suitable for both air-cooled and liquid-cooled engines and is compatible with wet clutches and integrated motorcycle gearboxes. This case includes twelve 1-quart bottles for engine builders, performance shops, race teams, and customers servicing multiple engines.

WHY THIS OIL:

The elevated ZDDP anti-wear additive level reinforces protection for cam lobes, flat tappets, rocker arms, and other highly loaded valvetrain components during initial engine operation.

Balanced friction modifiers promote efficient and controlled component seating, helping piston rings establish an effective seal against the cylinder walls.

A shear-stable viscosity-index modifier helps maintain the correct lubricating film, stable viscosity, and effective ring sealing as engine temperature and load increase.

Balanced detergent and dispersant levels support rapid engine break-in while helping control sludge and deposit formation.

Two levels of extreme-pressure additives provide additional protection for high-lift camshafts with roller or non-roller valvetrain configurations.

Break-in procedures vary according to the engine design, piston-ring material, cylinder-wall finish, camshaft type, bearing clearances, and component manufacturer. Follow the engine builder’s or component manufacturer’s specific instructions.

Typical break-in procedures may involve operating the engine under varying speed and load, using loads up to approximately 75 percent, and avoiding excessive idling that may contribute to cylinder-wall glazing.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

Typical break-in oil-change intervals may range from approximately 100 to 1,000 miles or up to 50 operating hours, depending on the engine design, component materials, and builder instructions.

This product is formulated for the engine break-in period and may not meet the current specifications required for normal extended service in newer production vehicles.

It can be mixed with compatible synthetic or mineral lubricants when necessary, although a complete oil and filter change should be performed at the end of the specified break-in interval.

Always verify the correct viscosity grade, oil capacity, break-in procedure, and replacement interval before use.
